“Live Music Saves Lives, Man!”

Posted in fun, school on November 25th, 2008

I’ve been asked to go to two gigs this week. I also need to write an essay this week before Friday – which essentially means tomorrow afternoon and during Thursday. Somehow I don’t see these two combining too well, though my ability to do anything tonight other than fall asleep reading an article on interpretations of international law is questionable. It’s true that I’ll have less time to procrastinate, but if I didn’t go I could have done something useful like clean my room.

You can’t say no to being the “+1″ of “Guest list +1″, though. Can you? Makes buying a pint or two plus the inevitable pair of earplugs to replace the perfectly good pair sitting on my dresser at home more bearable to my budget, at least.

Tick Tock

How did it get to be week 8 already? I’m very nearly halfway through my final year at the LSE and it’s come as a surprise. I’m sure this autumn has gone quicker than last year. I’ve done more reading but strangely it feels as if I’ve done less work. And that feeling is made worse by the nagging feeling that I should have done a lot more.

But pretty much everything is on the right path, though. I’m doing all right, but somehow I’m feeling lacklustre about the work and my own effort. I’m on top of schoolwork but everything else is kind of behind.

It’s a Bit Weird Missing This

Helsinki on Sunday 23 November 2008 around 6pm

That’s what it looks like right now, as I’m typing this. And while London is cold and wet and miserable that is in another world of horror.

But strangely, in that horror there is beauty. I can just imagine sitting comfortably in a house, overlooking the darkening city with the wind rattling in the roof, the snow beating silently against the ground. And like that, if I wouldn’t be stuck outside, it would be good. Cup of hot tea, books or some ridiculously perfect and relaxing tv. Yeah, could be worse.

Not a Disagreeable Man, Though I’d Like Him to Clarify Some Things

I went to see Alexander Stubb give a lecture at the LSE. Afterwards a lot of the Finnish Society members went to a reception and then we all piled into a pub for a few more drinks after the Minister had left after having done his handshakes and photos with the most sycophantic fans. I was pleased to meet a few new Finnish people last night, though the whole thing wasn’t organised as well as the emails prior to the event would have had it.

Of course coming home past midnight and then sitting in the kitchen listening to my housemate detail her date with a new man means that I haven’t slept enough and am having a hard time keeping my eyes open even just thinking about my essay topic on the shift from government to governance… zzz…

Two Years in the Making

This past weekend it hit me. I live in London and actually quite like it.

Finally.
